Peacekeeper Wars: Hour One

The miniseries begins with a prologue consisting of shots of a damaged Moya and John lying on a gurney with bloody scrapes to his face. He appears to be unconscious or sleeping. Aeryn's voice is heard speaking of the end of the fighting and dying; they are all safe. Then she states that it's not worth it if the trade off is John's life.

On the Water Planet:

Rygel is swimming around the bottom of a body of water scooping up small bits of crystal and swallowing them. He searches carefully then swims up to the surface where he is unceremoniously hauled into a watercraft by D'Argo. Noranti is also aboard as well as a contingent of the natives of the water planet Moya was resting up on in "Bad Timing." Rygel then proceeds to throw up all of the crystals and some very gross black stomach liquid. He's been fishing for Crichton & Aeryn. Noranti tastes each piece of crystal to tell if it belongs to John or Aeryn before sorting them into piles to take back to the lab. At the lab Chiana & Stark have just arrived back to the planet surface having found a Diagnosan and, unfortunately, Grunschlk (see Die Me, Dichotomy and Season of Death) who is a bit dead but doesn't seem the worse for it. Chiana has new eyes courtesy the Diagnosan. We later realize that she can see energy signatures of people, weapons, and power plants even at significant distances and through walls. Meanwhile, having finally found all the bits and pieces of John and Aeryn, the Eidelons reconstitute John and Aeryn, still in full clinch mode. As soon as they are fully formed, they both pull their pulse pistols and demand an explanation. However, it is John who is forced to explain multiple times to the natives just who he is and what brought him and the crew of Moya to the Eidelons planet before they will allow him the reunite with the crew. The Diagnosan checks out Aeryn who is in tip-top shape but is NOT pregnant. In fact, according to the Diagnosan, she has never been pregnant! John and Aeryn go on the offensive first suspecting a plot by Grunschlk (understandable considering his prior behavior). They then talk to D'Argo who sends them to Rygel. Turns out, not all of the crystal bits were in place when they were reconstituted, and now, Rygel is pregnant with John & Aeryn's baby! Aeryn demands that the Diagnosan transfer the baby back to her immediately. He cannot comply. The baby is in a delicate stage of development and cannot be transferred back until the end of the 1st quadmester. No one is happy with this. The crew asks the Eidelons if they can stay awhile longer until the baby can be transferred but are not made to feel welcome. Stark explains that the Eidelons aren't really paranoid; they are just extremely frightened, so frightened in fact, that they won't even talk about what it is they fear.

The battle is not going well for the Peacekeepers. Scorpius has been given a battlefield command carrier on the front lines. However, as soon as John & Aeryn are reconstituted, he seems to know almost immediately. He orders Braca to leave the battle and explains to Sikozu (who has an interesting new look) that John Crichton is alive, and Scorpius is going to get that wormhole knowledge. Peacekeeper Grand Chancellor Maryk is furious when Scorpius pulls out of battle. He labels Scorpius a traitor and a coward. Grayza appears, hugely pregnant, and tries to placate him by saying that Scorpius's hate of the Scarrans is and always will be his primary motivation. Maryk scoffs but doesn't send troops to actively capture Scorpius.

Back on the water planet, John and Aeryn are getting into place for their wedding ceremony. Aeryn is not thrilled at dressing up a bit (long black T and a red flower in her hair) "You owe me." she declared to Crichton. One of the Eidelons, an older woman, agrees to officiate. John has to feed her the lines of the tradition wedding ceremony (from the Book of Common Prayer). Before they can really get going, Scorpius's command carrier begins to descend through the atmosphere. The Eidelons run for cover blaming the crew. John, Aeryn and D'Argo send the others with the Eidelons charging Stark with convincing them that they are not responsible for the command carrier showing up and Chiana to guard Rygel with her life. Inside the temple, Noranti recognizes some symbols. She knows who these people are; they are Eidelons, the descendants of the priests of Arnessk who were released from their stasis by John & Co in "What Was Lost..." The Eidelons had a special biological ability to create calm and the desire to act with reason in warring factions thus influencing them to strive for a peaceful solution to their conflict. They were the Peacemakers of the universe. Unfortunately, their descendants have lost the knowledge of how to use their special ability. The crew decides to take two of the Eidelons with them back to Arnessk to be trained by the priests there in the ways of peacemaking. As much as John is displeased to see Scorpius, he agrees to allow he and Sikozu to tag along as Scorpius's command codes may help them make it through Peacekeeper space safely. The crew heads out. Back at PK Grand Command, Grayza is talking with Maryk about their baby girl and how the war is going. Maryk is not optimistic. The Peacekeepers have lost every battle of the war. He is just about ready to sue for peace and surrender to the Scarrans. Grayza urges him not to give up yet.

On the way back to Arnessk, Moya is attacked my a mercenary ship working for the Peacekeepers. Scorpius tries to get them out of trouble by using the command codes, but it turns out they were changed as soon as Scorpius fled the battle. There is quite a fire-fight during which one of the Eidelons is killed, but the crew is able to get free and starburst. This starburst takes them right to Arnessk. John, Aeryn and Stark take the remaining Eidelon to the surface. John runs into Jool who has really gone Xena since they last saw her. She also seems extremely happy to see John, immediately kissing him quite passionately until Aeryn interrupts. Jool is working as a guard for the priests, so she introduces them to the high priest, Yondalao. John explains the situation, but the priests want time to consider whether they even want to have anything to do with their descendants. The group is asked to leave the temple and await their decision. No one wants to wait. The high priest gestures to John and Aeryn commanding them "Peacekeepers, do your duty." Aeryn is startled. John however, jumps into manic-Crichton mode and manages to convince the priests to help stop the massive and devastating conflict between Peacekeepers and Scarrans by training the Eidelon, Pikal, so he can in turn train others in the Peacemaking ways.

Peacekeeper Wars: Hour Two

At the temple, the Eidelons pray, as Pikal agrees to accept the great responsibility that the ability to inspire peace carries. Outside the temple, Crichton notices Rygel is already getting bigger from the pregnancy. Aeryn explains to him that it’s a geometric pregnancy, meaning the baby will be born in a few solar days. Aeryn makes a joke, telling Crichton she’s picked a name for the baby, a Sebacean name that is hilarious sounding. Back aboard the Command Carrier, Grayza watches as her lover and the commander, Maryk, orders the retreat of one of their squadrons. He explains that the Scarrans have been planning this war for many cycles, but he has a plan to turn the tide. Grayza seems very disappointed with her commander. Back on the planet, Scorpius and John are arguing about wormhole weapons, when the Scarrans arrive. John tries to convince Yondalao and the other Eidelons to come with them on Moya, but they will not leave. Only Yondalao goes with them. Jool also stays behind to which John says, “You always make the best mistakes.” And indeed, it turns out to be her last as the Scarrans launch a missile that destroys the temple at Arnessk and all the inhabitants. Moya attempts an emergency starburst, but the Scarrans fire on her. Everyone boards a transport, except D’Argo and Chiana who leave in Lo’La, D’Argo’s ship. They engage the invisibility shield before leaving Moya, hoping that the Scarrans will not be able to see them. Yondalao informs the crew that he will have to get to know the Scarrans first and understand their fears and desires before he can begin to negotiate a peace. So much for the speedy peace accords. Because Stark has lived among the Scarrans, he agrees to help Yondalao understand the Scarrans. Stahleek and Ahkna begin heat probing John and Aeryn to find out where D’Argo and Chiana are and then they let everyone know that they know Rygel is pregnant with a half human, half Sebacean child. Again, we realize that there is a traitor amongst the group. Scorpius thinks it is Grunschlk. I have my own suspicions. Stahleek and Ahkna begin their mistreatment of the gang, first by ripping out Scorpius’s coolant system and by torturing Rygel. They give John an arn to turn over wormhole weapon knowledge. Meanwhile on Lo’La, Chiana uses her new eyes to pinpoint the weak spots in the Scarrans ship. What seemed an impervious craft, actually only needs three directed shots to cripple it. She and D’Argo get ready for the attack. John agrees to take Stahleek to the wormhole Einstein so that he can get his wormhole weapon, if Stahleek agrees to turn over Rygel. Stahleek agrees.

Here’s where it gets interesting. Aeryn questions Yondalao about something he said at the temple. He said, “Peacekeepers, do your duty." He explains to Aeryn that at the beginning of their usefulness and peacemakers, 27000 cycles ago, they developed need of a guard, someone to keeps the peace once the negotiations had finished. The Peacekeepers. Yondalao further explained that they went to great lengths to choose a species no one had met before to be the Peacekeepers. The Eidelons found the species primitive, barely clothed, and far removed on the galaxy's outer spiral. They brought some of them back, accelerated their evolution and the Peacekeepers became the trusted acolytes of the Eidelon peace makers. So we finally have an explanation for the similarities between humans and Sebaceans….they were once the same species.

Ahkna tells a Scarran nurse the “accidentally” kill Rygel and then brings Aeryn in to her chamber. She tells them she knows of their escape attempt, again reminding us that there is a traitor among them and since Grunschlk is no where around, it’s not him. Ahkna tells Aeryn she will never see her baby again and when Aeryn is flippant, she opens fire on Lo’La, destroying the ship. Meanwhile, John and Stahleek fly down the wormhole to Einstein, who explains to Stahleek that John cannot make a wormhole weapon. They return to Stahleek’s ship and Aeryn tells John that they have killed D’Argo and Chiana. John is ready to give up when Yondalao begins to turn purple and glow. It appears he is ready to negotiate a Scarran peace. And surprise, surprise, since Luxans can survive in space, D’Argo is breathing for Chiana and keeping her alive as they float in space. They kiss, before she appears to lose consciousness. Stahleek follows through with his promise to John and returns Rygel and Yondalao begins his work for peace. Stahleek agrees to sit and talk with him. Back on the Command Carrier, Grayza kills her lover, Maryk, because she views him as weak for retreating in the war. She tells him as he dies, “death is preferable to subjugation under Scarran rule. They must be defeated." She really doesn’t like the Scarrans. Chiana and D'Argo awake aboard a Luxan ship, having been rescued by D’Argo’s son, Jothee. D'Argo and Chiana show them how to defeat the Scarran ship. Yondalao has helped Stahleek come to an agreement for peace, which they outline in detail, when Ahkna barges in and shoots Yondalao. With him dying, Stahleek’s anger takes over and he leaves the room. There is no hope for peace. John forces Stark, against his will, to help Yondalao cross over to the other side, and in the process, Stark collects all the knowledge that resided with Yondalao. He is overwhelmed and John asks “what have we done?” Rygel begins convulsing and they realize that they need to transfer the baby to Aeryn right away. But just as they begin doing that, gas begins to the fill the room. Scorpius explains it is a paralyzing gas that Scarrans use to incapacitate species they wish to dissect while still alive. John and Aeryn look at each other and grab Rygel. "You've ruined my life," Aeryn tells John. "I know."

The scene returns to John lying in the bed on Moya and Aeryn, with a baby in the background, saying, "This war is not your responsibility." John answers, "How am I supposed to protect you from the Peacekeepers and the Scarrans and the Tregans and the lions and tigers and bears?" "This is what you want. This is what you want," Aeryn says. "No, Aeryn, it is not what I want. It's just that fate keeps blocking all the exits and no matter what I do I just keep circling closer to the flame."

The final scene is of a wormhole weapon devouring a huge ship.

Peacekeeper Wars: Hour Three

On the Scarran ship, gas continues to pour in as Aeryn tries to get an unconscious Rygel to safety. Sikozu ignites the gas and directs the explosion which blasts the door to the containment chamber open. Just then, Jothee fires on the Scarran Decimator knocking out it's primary systems, including weapons. D'Argo contacts John ("I'm hearing dead people.") telling him that the Luxans are coming. They blast their way onto the ship and head off to rendezvous with John's group. Unfortunately, delay is inevitable. Rygel is fading fast, the baby must be transferred now or both will die. Scorpius, Sikozu, and even Aeryn return fire as John prepares to transfer the baby. He transfers it to Aeryn in an extremely painful-looking process. John asks if she's okay, and Aeryn says "I'm pregnant; well done." Mom & baby are doing fine as Aeryn goes back to exchanging weapons fire with the Scarrans. Rygel is okay too, just passed out.

The Luxans arrive, but they are one level below. Scorpius burns through a heavy grating with one of his burnt out coolant rods creating a path. Everyone jumps down to the Luxans, and they quickly retreat back to Jothee's ship and blast off.

Back on Moya, the Luxans take their leave to head off to the water planet to rejoin the Peacekeeper battle group. However, Jothee stays aboard to help guide them through Peacekeeper space safely. Aeryn's belly has grown very quickly, and she now looks close to 8 months pregnant. She scratches her belly in her sleep as John keeps watch. He is haunted, however, by his thoughts of wormhole weapons and the war. He finally makes up his mind and takes off in his module back to the iceflow to ask Einstein for the knowledge to make a wormhole weapon. He manages to convince Einstein that the only way peace can be brokered is to force it through the threat of wormhole weapons. John arrives back at Moya with a bloody head wound, still reeling from the expanse of knowledge he now holds. Scorpius looks smug while Aeryn is worried. John asks Pilot to help him assemble what he needs to make the wormhole weapon. Pilot is appalled and refuses to take part in what he believes will be the mass killing of thousands of people. He asks John some hard questions about his motives.

On the Water Planet, Braca reports back to Peacekeeper Command that he is pinned down on the surface. Grayza takes control of the battle fleet ("Don't let the belly fool you.") and orders them to Braca's location where they take up the fight against the Scarrans.

In the galley, Stark is catatonic and Rygel appears to be suffering from postpartum depression. Weeping, he wails, "I miss the baby." Stark seems to come out of his shock and seems too calm. Later, in a quiet moment, Chiana tells D'Argo that she may seems wishy-washy at times, but she wants to go with him to Hyneria when the war is over and settle down. Moya emerges from starburst into the midst of the battle. Moya takes control and dives into the ocean of the Water Planet for safety. She takes on some water but manages to stay partly dry inside. The crew takes a transport pod to the surface where they contact the Luxans and Braca. Braca is holed up in the temple with the High Priestess so John & Co head there with Stark. Jothee & his troop head out to look for Eidelon survivors. There aren't many as Stahleek has ordered their annihilation and the Scarrans are doing their best to comply as the Decimator's major weapons system is still down. On the way to the temple, the group stumbles across Grunchlk who cowers and whines as usual. They tie his hands and take him along not sure if he's a traitor or just an unlucky bystander. They make it to the temple and reunite with Braca, a few Eidelons, and the Diagnosan.

Back on the Decimator, Ahkna reports to Stahleek that Crichton is still alive, not dead in the Moya's crash as they supposed. Her spy is actually with John on the Water Planet as they speak.

Back in the temple, Aeryn's water breaks just as they begin fortifications of their position to wait for Pilot to finish repairs so he & Moya can retrieve them. Aeryn doesn't let her labor get in the way of fortifying themselves and modifying weapons to better fight the Scarrans. Aeryn is not happy with the pain of labor and how long it's taking. When she asks John how long it will take, his answer is not received well. "I have killed men for less." Stark transfers Yondalao's knowledge to the High Priestess and is shocked to realize that all of Yondalao's knowledge is transferred. None of it remains with Stark. He raises his hand to him mask in wonder. The High Priestess begins sharing the knowledge with the few Eidelons with her but says that their small group will not be enough to effect peace. Just then Noranti contacts John to say that she is leading a group of Eidelon survivors, about 100, to safety. They rendezvous with the Luxans who take over an armored Scarran transport and get to safety.

The Diagnosan reports that the baby is breech and must be turned. Before he can do so, he is shot. John enlists Chiana's aid, but Chiana has a tough time getting Aeryn to stop shooting long enough so that Chiana can turn the baby. "Shooting makes me feel better." sniffs Aeryn. The firefight stops for a bit, and new barricades are erected. During the lull, Scorpius pulls Sikozu aside supposedly for a tête-à-tête, but instead throws her to the ground, stepping on her back to keep her down, breaking several bones in the process. He roars out his rage at her for being a spy. "The Scarrans promised to release my people from their servitude." she screams. Scorpius just looks at her and says, "You ruined something...unique."

Aeryn, now in the last stages of labor, suddenly calls for Stark, insisting that he marry her & John before the baby is born. It takes a couple of false starts (a prayer for the dead and a puberty rite) and a couple of slaps from Aeryn before Stark manages to perform a simple yet perfect wedding ceremony. Married at last, Aeryn delivers the baby into John's waiting hands. They have a son. John & Aeryn kiss and hug as the baby looks on annoyed at being squished between his two crazy parents. Aeryn asks John for one favor: "Get us out of here." "Done" John replies.

Peacekeeper Wars: Hour Four

The crew force their way out all guns blazing, causing Ahkna to order her forces to fall back, and ambush them in the street. Grunchlk is seen crawling along the floor by Sikozu, who suddenly pulls her head up and just looks at him. I wonder what her final mission for the Scarrans is?  The crew advance through the streets, but they are ambushed by Ahkna's troops.  Braca attempts to take some Peacekeepers to a building across the street to set up crossfire, but ends up being shot in the knees. Jothee arrives in a Scarran transport and provides some firepower from the air then he leaves with the Eidelons, after saying good-bye to D'Argo. Crichton and Aeryn kiss, and Aeryn rejoins the others to wait for Crichton's signal.  As they move out, a sniper shoots and more Scarrans and Charrids attack. As a Scarran with a huge spear approaches Chiana, D'Argo pushes her out of the way and is skewered in the process. Chiana retaliates against that Scarran and gets caught. John moves in to help her, but Ahkna grabs him from behind. Aeryn saves the day and kills Ahkna.  "It's a boy," she says, "In case you were wondering."  John tells everyone to get to the meeting point, and Aeryn signals to the others. As they move out, D'Argo falls to the floor. He's fatally wounded.  In denial, Chiana calls to him to hurry up. She runs over, telling D'Argo to hurry.  Knowing he's going to die, D'Argo volunteers to stay behind and fight the Scarrans to the end.  Chiana doesn't want to face the truth and again tells D'Argo that he'll be fine.  They'll fix him up.  Stark offers to take D'Argo's pain, but he says no.  Chiana again tries to get D'Argo to go, but he tells her to get him some pulse rifles. John lays his hand on D'Argo and tells him he is the closest friend he has.  "You could've done better," D'Argo replies.  "Nowhere in the universe," Crichton answers. "You've got a lot of life to lead John. Do big things." D'Argo tells Chiana that he'll find her and that he loves her.  John grabs a distraught Chiana and pulls her away as she screams. Moya makes her way from the bottom of the ocean and they all jump into her docking web.  Except for Rygel who carries the baby and is floating in his chair, he is caught by the web and they all get safely to Moya.  Upon arriving  at command, John sees his wormhole weapon is complete, built to his specs by the DRD's.  Pilot reports that Jothee is safe, but finds out that D'Argo has perished.   John gets inside his wormhole weapon and activates it, creating a small black hole that begins to grow destroying all the battling ships in it's path.  It takes in the ships, and even begins to rip apart the water planet. Grayza or Stahleek order their ships to reverse while continuing to fire at each other, but then they realize that they cannot reverse.  They are caught in the black hole's pull.  They finally begin to listen to John and in the end, agree to end the war.  John gets back in the wormhole machine to stop of black hole, and as he does, Einstein appears and rips the wormhole knowledge from his mind.  He falls from the device to the floor and appears to be in a coma.   Aeryn, holding the baby, starts screaming for help.  As John lies, eyes open, in a coma in bed, Stahleek and Ahkna sign the peace treaty in the presence of the Eidelons, and Scorpius has an oddly pleased look on his face as he watches them.  Stark visits John, saying that he leaves every one of their encounters changed, and this time is no different, as he has found his own internal peace. He removes his mask, revealing that he no longer has the light.  He leaves his mask with John and walks away.  Chiana tells Jothee that she is still going Hyneria, and offers him D'Argo's Qualta Blade, which Jothee doesn't take. John has one last Harvey vision, as Harvey says his good-byes, since his program will wipe out his existence in John's mind.  Aeryn sits by John and tells him that it almost took losing the baby to fully understand motherhood, and she loves it. But she says she will not take it as a trade-off for losing him.  She puts their son down on the bed next to John.  John wakes up, and starts talking to the baby, as Aeryn looks on with joy and tears.   In the final scene, John and Aeryn take their baby up to Moya's terrace where they talk about the stars and naming them. They tell the baby that they want to give him a name that means courage and strength, so they've chosen the name D'Argo Sun Crichton. John tells baby D'Argo that they don't know what is in store, but he will never walk alone, and God willing will never know war. He lifts baby D'Argo up towards the stars and says "this is your playground."

The end.  And what an ending it was.
