3x03 - Self-Inflicted Wounds, Part 1: Could'a, Would'a, Should'a

J: Pilot, save the 'golly-gee-whiz' for later.
I almost expected us to have another nickname for Pilot, that of Gomer. Gomer Pyle was a tv character, first on the Andy Griffith show and later on a spin-off Gomer Pyle, USMC. One of his trademark phrases was "Well, gaaaaaawwwwwwwlly."

A: (Neeyala is explaining what happened) Do you understand any of those words?
J: Yeah, I watched all kinds of Star Trek.
I knew it! All those Star Trek references strewn about episodes, I knew John had to be a Trekkie.

Neeyala: We've ricocheted into the distorted region that divides a wormhole from normal space time.
J: We're not even on the... Fairway! ... we're in the Rough?
I think John still misses playing golf

John: (to Kreetago) Colonel Klink, yo, inspection is over
Colonol Klink is a character on " Hogan's Heroes," a t.v. show which ran from 1965 to 1970.

J: (to Jool who's cryopod is opening ) Hey, Sleeping Beauty. Wake up and die.
Did you know that in the original fairy tale of Sleeping Beauty, the princess is impregnated in her sleep and wakes up to find that she has given birth to twins?

J: My module jams in wormholes.
Neeyala: If this is... some kind of... jest...
I'm not sure if she thinks the "jams" part is the jest or the module itself.

J: Buckwheat. You, still want to get off this boat, man?
R: More than ever! This creature sheds--
J: Good! Cause your Uncle Sam needs you.
Uncle Sam as a symbol of the United States of America originated in popular culture. His origins are disputed, but the name usually is associated with Sam Wilson, a businessman who supplied the army during the War of 1812. His barrels were stamped "U.S." for the government, leading him to be nicknamed "Uncle Sam." This figure is probably most recognizable from the World War I recruiting poster on which he appeared. J: Thanks for the intel. This is Farscape One... y'all leave the light on for us.
Motel 6 - a hotel chain who's slogan is "we'll leave the light on for ya."

J: (riding in the wormhole) The Holy Grail. The zone. We are in the effin' zone, man.
The Holy Grail is generally considered to be the cup from which Christ drank at the Last Supper. The term is used more generically to mean any elusive, yet highly prized goal. Being "in the Zone" means to be in a state of focused attention or energy so that one's performance is enhanced. (Dictionary.com)

J: You brought it on yourself, Rugrat.
A "rugrat" is a toddler or baby. There's a popular cartoon called " The Rugrats."

J: (To Rygel) Can it, F. Lee. Zhaan, Pilot is unconscious. Moya's nexus system is so backed up the Roto-Rooter man couldn't get it --
Z: I know the litany, John.
F. Lee Bailey is a famous defense attorney with equally famous past clients including O.J. Simpson. Roto-Rooter is a plumbing company, they show up real quick and take care of your nasty plumbing problems.

J: Hey, Pilot. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. ( softly to himself ) Could'a, would'a, should'a.
We had a site fan write in and say that this part (Could'a...etc) and also the titles reminded her of Alice in Wonderland, in the nonsense song the Gryphon and the Mock Turtle sing (the would not could not part). I don't know....as I haven't read this for ages, but the correlation to Alice in Wonderland certainly makes sense, in this ep and in a general sense, because Crichton is sucked into a wormhole and emerges in a really weird world and Alice went down the rabbit hole and ended up in Wonderland.
