2x22 - Die Me, Dichotomy

Stark: How to you feel?
J: Like a popsicle. Gotta love this sphincter end of the universe.
The sphincter is a muscle that surrounds an opening in the body and can tighten to close it. There are two main sphincter muscles...the anal sphincter and the sphincter muscle which closes off your esophagus from your stomach. Somehow I think John is referring to the anal sphincter.

Stark: They're just going to have a look... an examination.
J: Make sure he puts the K-Y on the glove.
And this cinches that....K-Y Jelly is used by doctors to lubricate a dry area they are about to ... probe.

J: You're going to tell me my health plan doesn't cover this, right?
Actually, the HMO wants you to get a referral before they do anymore work

Aeryn keeps mispronouncing Grunshlick's name. Seems to me she picked up that bad habit from John.

A: Where the frell am I?
Scorpy-controlled John: Lose your dance partner?

J: You're gonna take my memories, and I'm gonna talk gibberish?! Why-why not just take my mojo while you're at it!?
Well, the obvious is that this is a reference to Austin Powers, as a site fan wrote in about. But I decided to do some checking and found some interesting history on the noun "mojo."

  • It is a collective noun used to describe one or more talismanic objects believed to have power intrinsic to their nature, and believed able to impart that power to ward off evil or misfortune by being worn close to the body. A simple example of mojo would be a rabbit's foot. I got this from a trial transcript at Columbia University's website.
  • Cecil Adams, author of "The Straight Dope" series that purports to give truthful answers to often-asked trivial questions, wrote that "mojo" means the sex act or a male sexual organ, even referring to singer Jim Morrison's song "Mr. Mojo Risin'" as an indication that a mojo may be the penis. (This is interesting considering John's "Morrisey" reference in Unrealized Reality, which I thought was a reference to Steven Morrisey of The Smiths...maybe not).
  • Finally, the word "mojo" is used on a 1960's recording by the blues singer Muddy Waters. The song was called "I Got My Mojo Working." (and happens to be the subject of the trial previously listed in the first bullet point) The lyrics of the song are:

I got my mojo workin' but it just don't work on you
I got my mojo workin' but it just don't work on you
I wanna love you so bad, child, but I don't know what to do

I'm going down to Louisiana, gonna get me a mojo hand
Going down to Louisiana, gonna get me a mojo hand.
Gonna have all you women under my command.

You be the judge.....I think I need to go see if my hubby wants to get his mojo working. hehehe....
