1x04 - Throne for a Loss

J: Fine, yes, you're right. We know almost nothing about the Tavloids.
A: Tavleks
J: Whatever. Tavloid...Tav... We do know they will pay us to haul cargo which they're not going to do if you go in there doing you're John Wayne impression.
A: John Wayne? Who's that? A relative?
J: (Irritated) John Wayne. No, the big guy "True Grit, The Searchers, The Cowboys, Genghis Khan. Oh no, look, forget about Genghis Khan everybody makes a bad movie. But the point is.
John Wayne is a famous American movie star who started acting in movies in the 1920's and continued into the 70's. He's made well over 100 films and popularized the classic American western. John Wayne played Genghis Khan in The Conqueror which is (according to one site fan) known for being one of the worst cast movies in Hollywood history.

A: No! No, the point is that I'm not going to meet that shuttle unarmed. It's as simple as that.
J: Kung Fu... Kung Fu never carried a gun.
Kung Fu was a t.v. show in the 1970s.

To a Tavlek--
J: Yo! Buttkus!
We've had a few people write in and tell us that this is probably a reference to Dick Butkus, a linebacker for the Chicago Bears known for being particularly aggressive.

J: Pilot, get a tractor beam on that shuttle.
P: Tractor beam? What's that?
J: Graviton field. Attracto ray. Superglue. Whatever it is that you yanked me aboard with.
John watched way too much sci-fi as a kid.

On what the gauntlet injects into the wearer--
Zyr: A stimulant. Adds to our strength.
J: A stimulant? It's a little more than cappuccino, pal, our friend just tried to kill us!
Cappuccino is a coffee drink...coffee is full of caffeine, which is quite the stimulant

J: Check it out. It's a water balloon.

After hitting D'Argo with the sleep mist bomb--
J: Good night, sweet prince...uh oh.
Don't you just love a man who can quote Shakespeare?

On Aeryn's plan to rescue Rygel--
J: That's your plan? Wile E. Coyote would come up with a better plan than that!
Wile E. Coyote is a character in the Roadrunner cartoon. The creators of Farscape made a wonderful episode in homage to the Roadrunner gang in the episode Revenging Angel.

J: You shanghai my ass down here and now you want me to lead? Give me one good reason?
"Shanghai" is slang for kidnapping someone

J: (whispering to D'Argo) Hey! Check out the critter.
Jotheb: Critter?
D: Critter?
Um.....no comment

Putting on the gauntlet--
J: Right. Willpower...like the Green Lantern's ring. Okay... (He puts the gauntlet on his wrist) Here goes nothing.
The Green Lantern is a popular comic book series.

J: He's very sick, very contagious. You ever hear of chicken pox?
According to WebMD.com, chickenpox is a viral illness characterized by a very itchy red rash, is one of the most common infectious diseases of childhood.

J: (Entering the clearing.) Piece of cake.
More slang...meaning "that was easy"
