1X02 - I, E.T.

A siren is going off inside Moya--
A: Definitely Peacekeeper. And don’t do that to me!
J: What?!
A: That! That.. (gestures at her eyes)
J: I can’t help it, the sound frequency’s doing something to my eye. Feels like it’s melting my brain. (suddenly concerned) Couldn’t actually be doing something to my brain could it?
Aeryn's probably wondering, at this point, if John even has a brain...and why he's so worried about it.

Asking if Moya can land on a planet--
J: Well if she can’t she can’t. We can stick or heads between our legs and kiss our asses goodbye. (everyone else looks confused) It’s a saying.
Putting your head between your legs is the standard position in preparation for an airplane crash landing, although I'm sure that "kiss your ass goodbye" isn't part of the official crash landing procedure. This is one of my all-time favorite Crichtonisms. The looks on the faces of the rest of the crew are priceless.

J: Well back home we call that being stand up.
A: Well I stood up. And I no longer have a home.
J: Well join the club.
To "stand up" is to uphold a position or opinion, definition courtesy of Dictionary.com

On the surface of the planet--
J: Kinda like Louisiana. Or Dagobah. (sees confused looks) Dagobah. Where Yoda lives.
A: Who's Yoda?
J: Oh, just a little green guy. Trains warriors.
A: Oh.
This cracks me up how Aeryn just takes it for granted he's talking about an actual person. This is the first of many refernces to the Star Wars series of films. Dagobah where Yoda lives....is described on the Official site as a "planet is covered in gnarled trees and fetid swamps. Huge lagoons are home to fearsome snakes and other creatures that swim in the murky waters." This pretty much describes the great state of Louisiana (one of my favorite places in the world....OK, so just Bourbon Street, but hey)

J: Pilot says you touch this, this and this. Works just like a VCR.
I wish my VCR worked that easily

J: Yeah, its a real kick in the pants ain't it?
"kick in the pants" is an English idiom and can mean either "that was fun" or sarcastically mean "that was fun" when is really wasn't

J: Keep watching the skies (kisses Lyneea)
Lynnea: That’s how your people say goodbye?
J: What? Your people don’t do that?
Oh, OH...my people do that - John can say goodbye to me anytime - or hello - I'm not picky. Also, John tells Lyneea to "keep watching the skies." We had someone write in and tell us that these are the last words in the 1951 sci-fi movie The Thing.
